The statement came from 343’s community manager Brian Jarrard, also known as ske7ch, on the Halo subreddit. Jarrard also broke the news that a remastered Halo 3 Anniversary isn’t in the works at 343 Industries either:
The rumor of Halo 3 on PC picked up steam just days ago when AMD used Halo 3-era artwork of Master Chief during an event showing off its new R5 CPUs. Apparently, it’s safe to say now that the art was just used as part of a sizzle reel and did not in fact accidentally leak an upcoming PC version of Halo 3.
While it’s not surprising that 343 would squash the PC rumor, it’s a bit unexpected that Halo 3 Anniversary is not in the works. Despite Halo 3 being a part of The Master Chief Collection on Xbox One, it didn’t get the full remaster treatment like the first two Halo games. While there hasn’t been any evidence that an Anniversary edition would be coming out, Halo 3 is marking its tenth anniversary this year.
Add to it that Halo 2 Anniversary came out ten years after the original Halo 2, this year seemed like the perfect opportunity to do the same with Halo 3. Plus, Microsoft is expected to release the new Project Scorpio console this year, and having a Halo game right out of the gate may have helped the new high-end console launch while also filling the gap between Halo 5 and Halo 6.
While Jarrard’s comments don’t rule out Halo 3 Anniversary or a PC version coming at some point in the future, it appears that 343 Industries is preoccupied with development of Halo 6 and other projects like this year’s Halo Wars 2. At least fans know not to expect news of the game at E3 this year.
