In March of 2019, Xbox Game Studios announced that the Halo: The Master Chief Collection was coming to PC on Steam and the Microsoft Store. The games were slated to be released individually starting with Halo: Reach on December 3, 2019, and ending with Halo 4 sometime in late 2020.

Today, Microsoft has announced that Halo 3 will be available on the Microsoft Store and Steam on July 14, 2020. Fans who subscribe to Xbox Game Pass on PC can download the game for no extra charge as well as the other Halo games that have been released thus far. Halo 3 on PC includes the ever-popular online multiplayer and the iconic Forge mode for players to recreate some of Halo 3’s beloved custom games. Also, in a fun twist, the PC version of Halo 3 will add a skull that gives players a jetpack.
Halo 3 joins Halo: Reach, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, and Halo 2: Anniversary on PC with Halo 3: ODST and Halo 4 scheduled to be added to the platform later this year. Each game being added to the collection has been optimized for PC. Halo 3 on PC can run at 4K UHD resolutions and at over 60+ FPS if the player’s machines can support it. The port of the game also includes customizable mouse and keyboard support as well as full controller support.
PC players are getting the full Halo treatment in 2020. Along with the Halo: The Master Chief Collection being slowly dripped onto PC, players will be able to play Halo: Infinite at launch on the platform when it releases later this year. With that said, there are still no plans to bring Halo 5 to PC, which will make it the only Halo game not available to that player-base.
Microsoft is preparing to show off the newest Halo game, Halo Infinite, at its digital event later this month. Fans have been waiting for the full reveal of the game since the cinematic trailer was shown off at E3 2019. While the wait has been long, Halo being available on more platforms has given fans something to work with throughout this last year. Console players, however, have been itching for a new, mainline Halo game since Halo 5: Guardians.
In other Halo news, last month a teaser video popped up on Twitter hinting at a villain from Halo Wars 2 could be returning for Halo Infinite.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection is now available for the Xbox One and PC.
