In addition to having the biggest release performance in Halo history, during its first week of availability, Microsoft announced that Halo 5’s sales numbers after launch day solidified the sci-fi shooter as the “fastest selling Xbox One exclusive to date”. In fact, the financial figures for the sequel were so successful, that after tons of would-be Spartans had purchased the title’s in-game REQ pack, 343 Industries increased the Halo World Championship tournament prize pool to $1.5 million as a way to celebrate with its fans.
The top 10 for October is quite the diverse bunch, as it’s populated with FPS titles, sports sims, platformers, and even a rhythm-based game. For those curious, the chart positions for last month’s sales are as follows:
Halo 5: Guardians (Xbox One) NBA 2K16 (PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One) Assassin’s Creed Syndicate (PS4, Xbox One) Madden NFL 16 (PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One) WWE 2K16 (PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One) FIFA 16 (PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One Destiny: The Taken King (PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One) Yoshi’s Wooly World (Wii U) Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (PS4) Rock Band 4 (PS4, Xbox One)
With Halo 5: Guardians being the top dog for now, its sales ought to remain strong throughout the rest of the year. And with its first free DLC pack “Battle of Shadow and Light” getting a release today, fans without the title have surely added the game to their holiday wishlist.
However, the Master Chief-centric title has stiff competition for November sales, as two of the most anticipated games of Fall 2015—that is, Fallout 4 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3—are finally available and will be vying for the number one spot on the charts for this month. Bearing that in mind, Halo 5 will surely take a tumble from the peak slot in November, but will continue to move enough units to keep its footing in the top 5 overall.
Which game do you think will become the biggest seller for November? Do you believe it’s between Bethesda’s Fallout 4 and Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, or do you think Halo 5 can maintain its chart supremacy? Let us know in the comments below.
