The news comes from 343 Industries’ community manager, Brian Jarrard, after he took to the game’s official subreddit under his online handle “ske7ch343” to officially declare in a community update that Halo 6 won’t be at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo. Instead, the developer’s community manager has promised “a little something” to be shown at E3 that’s unrelated to the sequel.

Although it’s surely disappointing for the majority of the Halo franchise’s fans to learn that 343 Industries doesn’t plan on confirming the existence of the sixth entry in the series next month, at least the developer has stepped forward early to squash any rumors about the issue and won’t be stringing the community along with teases just to let them down come E3 with a reveal that has nothing to do with the game. Not to mention, this frees up 343 to potentially work on a different project that has the potential to completely surprise the fan base.

Obviously, the Halo franchise is one of the most recognized and revered series of all time, especially with it having recently been inducted into the video game hall of fame, so it makes sense for 343 Industries to take its time polishing the sixth proper installment rather than rush out a followup so soon after Halo 5: Guardians. With any luck, though, the developer will be able to provide an update on Halo 6 sometime this year that will offer a positive perspective on the trajectory that the first-person series is taking.

Halo 6 has yet to be officially announced, and it won’t be present at E3 2017.
