In addition to all of this, Halo Infinite introduces some new tools for the Chief to use during his adventure on the Zeta Halo. Whether players are slinging around the world using the Grappleshot or fending off Banished forces with the Drop Wall, there’s new gear that allows the Chief to adapt to just about any scenario. But some of these tools are better than others, and knowing the strengths and weaknesses of each can mean keeping Chief alive during a tough firefight.

4 Thruster

The Thruster tool is a nifty upgrade that allows the Chief to quickly boost in the direction he’s already moving. It feels functionally similar to the boost capabilities all Spartans had in Halo 5: Guardians, a built-in feature that didn’t make the transition to Halo Infinite.

And it’s not that hard to see why, as the Thruster has a hard time justifying its existence against other tools like the Grappleshot. It doesn’t have the same escape functionality as the Grappleshot and is less useful during combat than a well-placed Drop Wall. When fully upgraded, it does add an invisibility feature that no other tool provides, but reaching that upgrade requires a lot of Spartan Cores that are better spent elsewhere.

3 Drop Wall

The Drop Wall is a familiar tool for longtime fans of the series and provides the Chief with some deployable cover that not only blocks incoming fire but allows him to fire back through its defensive barrier. The Drop Wall can also be upgraded to increase its durability, increase its size, and speed up its recharge speed.

The final upgrade turns any shots fired through the wall into electric rounds that shock enemies and disrupt vehicles. It’s a strong option for most combat scenarios, though it does require careful placement for maximum efficiency. The Drop Wall can’t be moved once Chief drops it, so if any enemies are behind Chief or close the distance, it loses its effectiveness.

2 Threat Sensor

The Threat Sensor is a new tool to the Halo series that allows the Chief to fire a device that reveals enemies within its radius. The sensor can be placed on almost any surface, and with upgrades, the Chief can expand the sensor’s range, cooldown speed, and add the ability to fire more than one at a time. Its final upgrade even provides unbroken visibility of nearby enemies, including those using cloaking devices.

The Threat Sensor is a vital tool when fighting large groups of enemies, especially if they’re moving to new locations while behind cover, as well as Banished Elites that use cloaking to turn themselves invisible. The final upgrade also includes a useful bonus that reveals enemies’ health meters, giving the Chief vital info on which opponents will go down the easiest.

1 Grappleshot

The Grappleshot has been at the forefront of Halo Infinite since it was first revealed, and once players can hands-on it with they’ll see why. The Grappleshot is one of the most groundbreaking video game tools in years, essentially turning Chief into a composite of Spider-Man and a Jedi.

It is honestly amazing how much utility 343 Industries managed to cram into one tool. In combat alone, the Grappleshot can be used to pull explosive barrels or guns into Chief’s hands from a distance. This is invaluable when running low on ammo or when looking for a stylish way to take out multiple enemies at once.

The enemies themselves can also be grappled, and with a few upgrades, the Grappleshot can become the most powerful weapon in the game. The Grappleshot’s enhancements are probably the best of any tool in the game, giving it the ability to stun enemies and deal massive damage when the Chief grapples onto an enemy directly.
