Included in this package are three titles from the Halo comic book series that were original released back in-between 2007 and 2010, Halo: Uprising, Halo: Helljumper, and Halo: Bloodline. Each title acts as a preemptive tail to a major game in the franchise, Uprising for Halo 3, Helljumper for Halo 3: ODST, and Bloodline for Halo Reach. The Halo franchise has had dozens of comics that have expanded on the game’s universe.

The Halo: Legacy Collection combines those three comics but also brings together staff interviews involved in the series as well as behind-the-scenes artwork. Halo: Uprising originally came as a four-issue series that took place just after the ending of Halo 2 and just before the beginning of Halo 3. Halo: Helljumper’s first of five issues came out in July of 2009 and its story predates the events of Halo 3: ODST. Like that game, it follows Orbital Drop Shock Troopers as they take on the Covenant. Halo: Bloodline drops readers before the fall of the planet Reach and its plot originally took place over five issues between December 2009 and April 2010. All three stories are joined in this collection along with the aforementioned behind-the-scenes interviews and artwork. This time around the publisher is Dark Horse Comics rather than the original publishers, Marvel Comics.
This announcement is pretty exciting for Halo fans who have been patiently waiting any news for their franchise. The stories they tell date back to some of the best-received games in the franchise. But it isn’t the news most were looking for, unfortunately. These comics will likely suit some of the massive Halo fanbase but, for those solely interested in the video games, this may just remind players that the game remains in limbo.
That being said, this is the perfect opportunity for those interested in learning more about the lore of the Halo franchise but who missed out the first time around. Dark Horse Comics certainly has no control over the release of the game and this news, despite sharing the franchise name, has to be looked on unrelatedly.
