The April Update
Halo: The Master Chief Collection will be receiving a major update at an unspecified time within April 2022. The update will run close to 22GB on Xbox consoles, and only around 11GB for Steam users. The update promises to bring a multitude of bug fixes and quality of life improvements, as well as a plethora of new content for players to enjoy across the many titles in which The Master Chief Collection is made up of.
Halo 3: ODST Firefight Improvements and Floodfight
Undoubtedly one of the largest additions within this new update are the changes to ODST’s Firefight mode, as well as the implementation of a completely new mode in the form of Floodfight. A variety of new maps and settings are now available within the popular Firefight mode, as well as a mix of new scenario modifiers that can be applied to a match. These can range from challenging hazards to newly implemented “Boons,” which can provide supplies in the midst of battle, among other benefits.
Floodfight is an entirely new mode implemented within this April update. Maintaining the same PvE survival elements of Firefight, Floodfight instead sees players battling out against the parasitic Flood, as opposed to the Covenant. Floodfight scenarios will see an ominous fog descend over fan-favorite maps, with the corpses of fallen teammates being reanimated to fight against any remaining players. Flood enemy-types can be implemented into standard Firefight matches via the customization of wave properties, with Floodfight also having its own set of customizable hazards that can be used to spice up the endless waves that the new mode will offer.
Cross-platform Co-op
Another exciting addition coming with this update is the implementation of cross-platform co-op gameplay for the campaigns of both Halo 3 and Halo: ODST within The Master Chief Collection. The update promises to allow players on both Xbox and PC platforms to play through these campaigns together online, although in a fairly experimental capacity. While already internally tested, a lot of feedback will be taken from players to streamline and improve many factors of this exciting new crossplay capability.
New Campaign Skulls
A bevy of new Skulls modifiers are also being added to classic Halo campaigns with the introduction of April’s update. Halo 2: Anniversary will receive the Acrophobia Skull, allowing players to fly without the aid of a vehicle simply by holding down the jump button. In addition to this, a total of 16 Skulls have been added across the campaigns of both Halo 3 and Halo: ODST, with ODST also receiving the game-breaking Acrophobia Skull despite its continued absence from the campaign of Halo 3. For fans of the older Halo titles, this update could not be any more exciting.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S and X.
