As revealed by 343 Industries Community Director Brian Jarrard in a tweet, Halo: The Master Chief Collection - including Halo: Reach - won’t be ready for beta testing via the Halo Insider Program when initially expected. After Halo: The Master Chief Collection was announced for PC in March, Jarrard revealed via Twitter that the first flights, or beta tests, were tentatively planned to begin on the PC starting in April. However, in the new tweet, he points out that it’s a complex project and will take a bit more time than initially hoped to reach the beta testing stage.
For the moment, there’s been no announcement as to when PC players can now expect to get their first shot at the game. As Halo: The Master Chief Collection will be released one game at a time for PC, with a planned start for this year, it’s unlikely that the beta will be considerably delayed. Jarrard noted that more information on the beta tests would be provided ‘soon.’
Many fans of the series have taken the news quite well, likely due in part to the ambitious efforts Microsoft and 343 are putting forward. Halo: The Master Chief Collection is essentially being rebuilt from the ground up for PC, rather than simply moving a straight port from the Xbox One version, which was beleaguered with quite a few issues at launch. It’s also still slated to release both on the Microsoft Store and via Steam, which has been a relief to PC gamers who have been troubled by the recent rise of Epic Games Store exclusives.
While Halo: The Master Chief Collection’s first beta tests for the PC are back up in the air, there’s still plenty for fans of the series to be look forward to. Halo: Infinite may be a next-gen launch title, and Microsoft plans to show it off during E3 in June.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection is set to release for PC in 2019.
